- 30 December 2016
Many thanks to Paul E for organising the End of the Year dive and to liz for providing shore cover. The driving conditions were not good, but it was worth it for a couple of very enjoyable dives, we explored parts of Stoney Cove not usually visited. Temperature was 8 degrees according to the board and a bit chilly on the fingers but the vis is really good. The DO finally saw the ghost carp.

Four of us made the trip to Stoney Cove on Sunday, Winter seemed to have blown in with a chilly 5 degrees air temperature on arrival.
The water however was a nice 11 degrees which felt warm to those in nice snug dry suits, there were still a number of trainees around in semi dry suits and even a couple of free swimmers in costumes now that is crazy!!
Two divers went in first for a quick bimble and buoyancy checkout. The visibility was excellent no doubt down to the cold weather at last killing off the algae which has been a big issue this year. Plenty of fish were seen and a few crayfish were out and about.
Two other divers did a couple of Compass navigation dives which from the surface anyway looked good. We managed to retire to the pub by 3pm and after a hot cup of coffee and a debrief we made our way home before it started to get dark.

Club AGM - report to follow.
- 2 October 2016
We had our second training trip of the year on Sunday 2nd October. The venue was Swanage Pier to take advantage of the good weather we have been experiencing this autumn. We had very good sunny conditions with a light breeze.
We had five divers in for the day, three going out to the Kyarra and then the Old Harry Drift and two doing 2 dives under the pier.
Visibility under the pier was a bit challenging but still allowed us to see some very nice Wrasse, large shoals of smaller fry as well as crab and shrimp.
Amazingly a Kyarra Perfume bottle was found under the pier which was intact and still after 98 years under the water still contained a small drop of perfume. We expect someone dropped it while getting off a dive boat at some point.
The boat trip trio had a very nice first dive on the Kyarra with one pair coming across a very large lobster. The second dive Old Harry Drift sounded exciting with a good tide running. One diver was lucky enough to spot (Fly over a large Ray) We saw one earlier in the year by the Fleur so looks like they are getting more common in the area which is good.
- 4 September 2016
We had our first training trip for the new Club year on Sunday. The venue was Stoney Cove and as has been the case for a couple of months now the Algae was in full bloom! Visibility was stated rather optimistically as 4 to 6 metres. However the water was still fairly warm at 16 degrees at 6 metres and 12 degrees at 20 metres.
We had 6 divers in for the day and all I believe had a good pair of dives. We didn’t have any official training to do but our PADI crossover wanted to do AS and CBL lifts from 6 meters (not done on PADI course) and one member had some new kit to get to grips with.
- 1 September 2016 -New Club Year
- 13 August 2016 - Stoney Cove
We had our seventh club training dive of the year on Sunday the 13rd August at Stoney Cove. The weather was Sunny and warm, surface temperature was a nice 23 degrees and the water temperature was 14 at 6m. The visibility was very poor with a typical summer Algal bloom bringing visibility even on the shelf down to 3 to 4 metres on the shelf.
Quite a small group of us again but we still managed to get some productive practice and training done.
- 23-24 July 2016 - Pembrokeshire
Dive trip to Pembrokeshire, diving with Dive In 2 Pembrokeshire - out of Milford Haven. Lots of life including lots of Dogfish.
- 3 July 2016 - Stoney Cove
We had our sixth club training dive of the year on the 3rd July at Stoney Cove. The weather was fine and almost like a summers day by mid-afternoon.
Surface temperature was maxed at 20 degrees and the water temperature was 14 degrees at 6m. The visibility was very poor with a typical summer Algal bloom bringing visibility even on the shelf down to about 4 metres!
A combination of dive leader and sports diver training took place and three divers completed three dives on the day.

- 1 May 2016
We had our fourth club training dive of the year on the 1st May at Stoney Cove. The weather was kinder than of late if still a bit chilly with frost first thing and then a cool north easterly breeze.
Surface temperature was maxed at 12 degrees and the water temperature was 8 at 6m anyway. We all managed 2 dives each which was very good as we had 2 trainees (and one instructor) in Semi-Dry’s.
- 25 April 2016 - Committee meeting
- 3 April 2016
We had our third club training dive of the year at Chepstow NDAC. The weather was fair for the time of year but a bitter breeze made keeping warm out of the water a bit of a challenge for us who feel the cold.
The surface temperature was maxed at 10 degrees Celsius and the water temperature was a finger numbing 4 degrees Celsius at 20 metres. The visibility was very good making navigation quite easy around the walls and across the back shelf area.
We only managed 3 dives due to only 4 of us taking part and a kit malfunction stopping one pair’s second dive at the Buddy check stage.
