Clive P was presented with his First Class Diver qualification at the BSAC Diving Officer Conference in London
- Monday 03 November 2008
Congratulations to Clive P for completing his BSAC First Class Diver qualification - the highest diving award in The British Sub Aqua Club.
In the 50 + years since the formation of BSAC fewer than 1,000 people have completed this qualification. The work that goes into attaining this standard takes years, and successful candidates have to demonstrate, to numbers of their peers, truly exceptional diving, planning and theoretical skills and knowledge. There are so few members that attain this exceptional standard that they get their certificates presented personally on stage at the annual diving officers conference.
I am sure that everyone in the club would join in saying that it could not go to a more deserving person, everyone in the club has at some time benefited from Clive's knowledge and his willingness to share his skills
- Wednesday 22 October 2008 - AGM
The club’s AGM was held on Wednesday 22 October, with 28 members attending.
- Louise, the outgoing chairman, entertained everyone with a show compiled from members’ photographs and video clips of our diving activities over the past twelve months. She then thanked everyone for their support and presented Clive with a gift in recognition of his seven years as DO.
- Dean presented the audited accounts.
- Clive, the outgoing diving officer, summarised the club’s diving activities for the year. 47 members had taken part in club activities and a total of 788 dives were logged (congratulations to Simon B for the closest guess – he wins a year’s membership!). There were no major incidents reported, with only the usual run of bumps and scrapes, keeping to the high standard of which we are justly proud. Pete’s report as retiring training officer highlighted the hard work of all the club’s instructors in helping members to gain 21 new qualifications over the past year.

Clive P found, and Anna F helped to recover an old wine type of bottle from a ship wreck in the Farne Islands.
The bottle has been declared to the Receiver of Wreck, the NAS are involved as are the Museum of London in tracing the date and origin of the bottle. Early estImates believe the bottle to be dated around the late 16th to early 17th century.
All the official paperwork has now been completed, and Clive is now the proud and legal owner of the bottle. He will be organising and leading a BSAC Southern Region expedition to the Farne Islands in 2010.

AGPSAC diver Paul Worlsey made headlines when he brought up a 7.7kg (17lb) Edible Crab (Cancer pagurus) with a shell measuring 30 cm (12 inches). These crabs normally range in size from 9 - 15 cm.
